Ye Olde Renaissance Woman

September 21, 2010

demoYe Olde Renaissance Woman rises from the ashes of Ye Olde Font Shoppe. We are no longer publishing small press poetry books but if you're looking to do that email me and I'll recommend a new publisher. However, I moved to Tennessee and have decided to freelance the many skills I have accumulated over my years as a computer programmer, teacher, martial artist, crafter, and poet. Come back and see what I may have to offer you!

Moved to Tennessee

August 02, 2010

After fifteen years in Connecticut, my itchy feet told me it was time to move south again. The background picture at the top of the page and the pictures in these sidebar items are views from my street. I think I'll stay for awhile. At least another 15 years.

Form Poetry

Keisha's Gone

a villanelle

Keisha didn’t go home last night

but came to school this morning still

in need of friends to hold her tight.

Her foster mother waited right

there, social worker too, both shrill.

Keisha didn’t go home last night.

She saw them, turned and ran, took flight

to find someone who cared, until

in need of friends to hold her tight,

there was nowhere to go. She’d fight.

They called the cops against her will.

Keisha didn’t go home last night.

She won’t be back this time. Her light

gone from my classroom leaves a chill

in need of friends. To hold her tight,

I wish I could rock her, say bright

futures await her to fulfill.

Keisha didn’t go home last night,

in need of friends to hold her tight.

(Note: This poem took 43rd place, in the Writer's Digest 77th Annual Writing Competition, in the Rhyming Poem category.)

Children's Poetry

Guacamole

a nonet

I will not taste that guacamole.
It looks all full of e coli.
Gooey green like someone's snot.
Don't waste time, you cannot
make me take one taste!
My mouth closed tight,
won't eat one
single
bite.
